Estancia Day, the Pampas
Travel to a traditional estancia to enjoy a day with the gauchos. On arrival, you will be welcomed and received in a small traditional outhouse with savoury empanadas (a kind of pasty), soft drinks and wine. You will then be escorted around the estancia and visit the main residence, the museum, the bakery, the stables and other building essential to the daily management of a typical Argentine estancia. You will then be given an opportunity to be driven by horse and carriage, or ride your own horse.
Following the equestrian activities will be a “Gaucho Show” and an asado, a feast of roast meats, vegetables, bread and wine. While you enjoy your asado, professional dancers and singers entertain you with traditional Argentine folklore dances and songs. In the afternoon, Gauchos on horseback demonstrate their skills as they carry out their equestrian activities and games. This can be followed by a stroll around the lands of the estancia while enjoying the rural landscapes of the Argentine Pampas. There are also shops where regional crafts are available.
Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay
A full day excursion commencing with a pleasurable 3 hour cruise across the River Plate to Colonia del Sacramento. This old Portuguese colonial city dates from the 17th century and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage City. After lunch, which is included in the excursion, a tour around the city will include the old historical area of Barrio Histórico and its museums, and will continue along the coast until reaching Real de San Carlos and Plaza de Los Toros. Here there will be free time to enjoy the surrounding area until returning to Buenos Aires in the evening.
Iguazú Falls, Argentina and Brazil
The falls of Iguazú is another UNESCO World Heritage site that Argentina can boast. These spectacular falls are teeming with wildlife and abundant vegetation and are one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world. The Iguazú system has 250 waterfalls, 200 of which are in Argentina and 50 of which are in Brazil. The falls plummet 82 metres (270 feet) and are 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) wide, which makes these falls amongst the most spectacular in the world. A visit to Iguazú normally includes excursions to Puerto Iguazú on the Argentine side and Fox do Igaucu on the Brazilian side.
